Importing email from Gmail
SlickAlpha mailspaces support importing email from Gmail using IMAP protocol. Enable IMAP access on Gmail which is disabled by default, and generate an app password for your SlickAlpha import. Follow the steps below to import your email from Gmail.
1. Enable IMAP for your Gmail account
- Log into your Gmail account, and click the gear icon on top right corner to view settings panel.
- Click See all settings button on the settings panel to view all settings.
- Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab to view all settings related to IMAP.
- Scroll down and find IMAP access section, and toggle Enable IMAP.
- Click the Save changes button at the bottom to submit changes on your Gmail account.
2. Generate an Google app password for SlickAlpha
- Login to Google MyAccount page (myaccount.google.com) using your Gmail credentials.
- Click the Security button on the left panel to open security settings.
- Setup 2-step verification for your Google account, which Google requires to generate app passwords.
- Once the 2-step verification is complete, click the App passwords option right below to generate an app password.
- Click Select app and choose Other (Custom name) option.
- Enter SlickAlpha for app name and click the Generate button.
- Now you should see a randomly generated app password. Copy this password to use it for your SlickAlpha email imports along with your Gmail address.
3. Validate source login using IMAP analyzer
- After generating your Google app password, visit our free IMAP analyzer tool and validate your Gmail address and the app password generated in step 2.
- If your credentials are validated successfully, Mailbox login test should be marked as pass. You can now use these credentials to import email to SlickAlpha mailbox.
4. Starting an import job
A. For administrators
As an administrator/owner of a mailspace, you can import email for any mailbox in your mailspace. To start an email import,
- Open My Mailspaces page, and click Manage for your mailspace.
- Scroll down to find Transfers section, and click Import Email button.
- Select the target mailbox from the dropdown menu, and enter your source email and password validated in step 3.
- Click Import Email to start the import process.
B. For assigned members
As an assigned member, you can import email if imports are enabled for your mailbox. To start an email import,
- Open My Mailboxes page, and click Manage for your mailbox.
- Scroll down to find Transfers section, and click Import Email button.
- Enter your source email and password validated in step 3.
- Click Import Email to start the import process.
During import process, your mailbox will be locked from access. After starting an email import, you can optionally cancel it within 5 minutes from creating the job. If you have enabled the Auto Requeue option, the process will enter Active state after each successful completion. During Active state, you can access your mailbox, or optionally cancel the import job.
